Vineyard terraces, Jura pastures and lakes in French-speaking Switzerland
In Western Switzerland people speak French, and life feels a little more relaxed. On Lake Geneva the Lavaux vineyard terraces drop steeply to the water, in the Gruyère region the little town of Gruyères sits on its hill, and the Vaud Alps are home to mountain villages such as Les Diablerets.
Further north the Jura stretches out with its wide pastures, forests and high moors. Horses graze in the Franches-Montagnes, the Vallée de Joux has nurtured the art of watchmaking for generations, and the Doubs winds in deep loops through the Clos du Doubs.
On Parkn'Sleep you will find pitches in the Romandie at winegrowers, on farms and by lakes. You arrive, check in and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The Lavaux vineyard terraces and the watchmaking towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Creux du Van, a huge rock amphitheatre, is one of the most impressive natural sights in the Jura.
Hiking through the vineyards, cycling over the Jura heights, canoeing on the Doubs and swimming in Lake Neuchâtel. In winter there are cross-country trails in the Jura and ski resorts in the Vaud Alps.
May to October for lakes, vineyards and Jura pastures. Autumn brings the grape harvest and the cattle descents. In winter the Jura is a quiet cross-country skiing area.
Every canton and municipality has its own rules. At official pitches and with Parkn'Sleep hosts you are always on the safe side.
The roads through the vineyards are very narrow. It is better to park your vehicle and explore the terraces on foot or by train.
