Castles, thermal springs and Jura ridges between the Rhine and the Aare
In the north of Switzerland the Rhine, Aare, Reuss and Limmat rivers meet. Aargau is often called the canton of castles: Lenzburg, Habsburg, Wildegg and the moated castle of Hallwyl are only a few kilometres apart. In Baden and Bad Zurzach hot springs bubble up from the ground.
Solothurn is considered the most beautiful baroque town in Switzerland, with the Jura and the Weissenstein rising behind it. In the Thal nature park and the Bucheggberg the landscape is rural and peaceful. Basel and Baselland combine art and culture on the Rhine bend with cherry trees and Jura villages.
On Parkn'Sleep you will find pitches in the region on farms, in nature parks and by the water. Ideal for a cultural trip with short distances.
Nowhere else in Switzerland are so many castles and palaces so close together as in Aargau. The canton of rivers is perfect for floating downstream in a rubber dinghy, and with its museums Basel is one of Europe's great cities of culture.
Swimming in the Rhine in Basel, floating down the Aare, bike tours through the Freiamt and hikes over the Jura heights. Flat paths run around Lake Hallwil, and in the Thal the rocks tempt climbers.
April to October for rivers, bike tours and castles. In April the cherry trees blossom in Baselland. In winter the thermal baths, museums and carnival are well worth it.
Only at a few official sites in the city. Outside the city in Baselland or along the Rhine you will find quieter alternatives.
Baden, Bad Zurzach, Rheinfelden and Schinznach Bad. All are easy to reach by camper.
Very much so, as distances are short. In one weekend you can combine castles, spas and a city.
Usually not. Many car parks along the river are closed for overnight stays. Use legal pitches offered by hosts.
