High season has the better weather and worse everything else: full pitches, high prices, queues on the mountain passes. If you can, shift your camper time to the edges of the year, and you get a better version of the same holiday.
What the off-season gives you
First: space. Where you need to book in July, almost every night is free in May and October, and spontaneity becomes possible again. Second: peace. The lake without speedboats, the pass without queues, the farm pitch where you are the only guest and therefore get invited for coffee. Third: light. Photographers have known it for ages: the low autumn sun and the clear spring light beat any midsummer haze.
What it asks of you
The off-season is not a free gift, it comes with two conditions. First: warmth. A working heater, or the strategies from our winter basics, turns cold nights into cosy ones. Second: research. Some pitches and mountain roads close outside the season; checking opening times and pass conditions belongs in your evening routine.
The insider tip within the insider tip
The best off-season weeks are the ones right at the edges of the school holidays: mid-June, before everyone sets off, and the second half of September, when everyone is back. Summer weather with an off-season feel, the sweet spot you will be talking about for the rest of the year.
🍂 Find year-round pitches: around a third of the pitches in the network can still be booked outside the season. Filter by «Open all year» at parknsleep.app.
