Tinned ravioli is a cliché, not your destiny. Two gas burners are enough for everything that makes good cooking, as long as you follow the rules of the camper kitchen: one pot, little washing up, lots of market.

The one-pot principle

The classics of camping cuisine have one thing in common: they need one pot or pan, not three. Curries, pasta, chilli, couscous bowls, wraps with whatever the fridge has to offer, plus salads in every variation. If you pre-cook rice or couscous before you leave and decant spices into small tins, you will cook faster on the road than any delivery service.

Shop where you sleep

The underrated luxury of farm pitches: the supermarket is twenty metres from your vehicle. Eggs from this morning, cheese from the farm's own kitchen, vegetables from the garden, plus your host's suggestion of what to make with them. Cooking does not get more local or fresher than that, and the money stays exactly where you are a guest. Weekly markets along your route serve the same purpose.

Fire and barbecue: ask first, then light up

Nothing beats an evening by the fire, but an open fire is exactly where camper romance meets the rules. Barbecues and fire pits are up to the landowner, and in summer cantonal fire bans may apply that include private fire pits too. The solution is simple: read the pitch profile, ask your host if in doubt, and have a gas stove with you as plan B. The sunset tastes just as good without embers.

🍳 Rule of thumb for the onboard kitchen: anything that takes 30 minutes at home takes 20 in a camper, because nothing distracts you and your evening off is waiting right outside the sliding door.
